The value of experience

I've long been a believer that 1 years hands-on experience is worth 5 years studying & learning... give or take a month. The knowledge and understanding of a subject that you acquire through hands-on experience is so much more valuable than in-theorum training. Reading about waves and currents and tides in a book doesn't give you the same knowledge of a ship captain who's actually been there, done that. When hiring someone, its always experience that seals the deal over someone ...

My new cabbie

Ok, so this post is really quite unrelated to anything that this blog normally talks about, but I couldn't help myself.. I had to share this.. I got my first car when I was 18. I worked as a waiter at St Elmo's and my dad agreed to equal whatever I saved towards my first car. Eventually I had enough, and I got my first reddish/orange demon - a Datsun 140Y Pretty much like that, except a miff orangy red ...

True story of a highway accident in Mpumalanga

A friend of mine was involved in a terrible car accident a few weeks ago. She managed to recall everything that happened and documented it all below... Quite a hectic story... We left about a week and four days ago on our usual countrywide trip...which...as usual i wasnt looking forward to..anyhoo...we covered all the stores in Jozi and had to make our way up to Nelspruit to do the stores there..had about a week left to go before we got home... Never underestimate the power of a taser

Last weekend I saw something at Larry's Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 22nd anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Toni. What I came across was a 100,000-volt, pocket/purse-sized taser. The effects of the taser were supposed to be short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on your assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety... WAY TOO COOL! Long story short, I bought the device and ...

Pictures to make you go ahehehe

So its a Thursday and that sucks. Why? Well, cos its not Friday... Friday is still a good few hours away. So whilst the weekend and its associated laughter and fun is still a while off, I thought I'd provide a bit of humor to make the wait seem less painfull. So without further ado, here's a few funnies to make you chuckle. (the dog is by far my favorite...dang...seconds from self-destruction)...

BBClone & Wordpress Integration

BBClone is a rocking piece of software. Its a website statistics generator that provides highly detailed listings of each & every visitor to your site: their IP, Location, Time of Visit, OS, Browser, Time spent, Pages viewed, Referrer and Search Term used (if applicable). Basically you put a trigger on each page of your website. That trigger has a unique key/name that identifies that specific page so you can easily identify in the logs which ...

The Creation of Dogs

On the first day of creation, God created the dog. On the second day, God created man to serve the dog. On the third day, God created all the animals of the earth (especially the horse) to serve as potential food for the dog. On the fourth day, God created honest toil so that man could labor for the good of the dog. On the fifth day, God created the tennis ball so that the dog might or might ...

Hidden features you never knew about

I dunno how long this has been around for, but I just found out (via Ryan) about some funky hidden emoticons in Skype. Seems the guys over @ Skype have a sense of humor. With the new versions of Skype (2+), there's 8 new emoticons, and thankfully they're a little more 'new age', than the old dreary smiley faces. Unfortunately these aren't available on the standard drop down emoticon menu - you'll have to manually type in the codes for ...

Things to make you ponder

Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night. Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian anymore than standing in a garage makes you a car. Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you've never tried before. My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance. Not one shred of evidence supports the ...
