Cape Town 05/06

And just like that, 3 weeks of holiday has all too quickly fizzled into nothing more than memories, photographs and a maxed out overdraft. It was worth it though. Cape Town 05/06 was by far the best holiday I’ve had.

Crammed into those 3 weeks was:

  • A week relaxing with my parents
  • Quad-biking around an endless expanse of white sand-dunes (thanks Sharon & Shawn)
  • A camping trip in the Cederberg mountains which involved plenty of tanning, swimming, braai’s and lots of beer
  • A weekend spent in Betty’s Bay in a friends holiday house (thanks Carl, Steph & Abbi)
  • The joys of watching the bands Just Jinger and Flat Stanley, as well as the DJ’s Lady Lea (wow), Dean Fuel, Nick Matthews, Roger Goode, Nicole Fox and a whack of others
  • Memorable dinners at Tank, Moyo and Hildebrand, Quay Four and of course the Cape Town Institution of Lamed
  • A few wikkid skate sessions that left me with some noticeable bruises and scars (pics lata). Thanks to Sharon for photographing our escapades

Naturally, the joys of catching up with old friends, seeing the old hang out spots and soaking in the vibes and atmosphere that pervades everything in Cape Town are worth a mention. Standing on the beaches at Clifton 4th with a few good mates, sun burning down onto my back, watching the yachts floating just offshore and scoping out the hotties walking around the beach, I realized, “This is what its all about.” Living here takes the edge off of work and stress. No matter how bad it gets, you can always take solstice from the fact that you live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, the #3 in the list of 50 places to visit before you die, Cape Town.

Almost 3am in the morning, and Long Street is still buzzing with street vendors selling hotdogs, steakrolls and hot chips to the partyers with the munchies. What’s always amazed me is the diversity of people in Cape Town. It’s the epitome of a cosmopolitan city where it doesn’t matter what color you are or what background you have. All that matters is that you’re out, having a good time with a smile on your face.

All said and done, it was a fantastic holiday that allowed me to accomplish a helluva lot whilst saving time for that all important relax factor. Thanks to all my mates who made it happen and I look foward to doing it all again…
