How to get rid of a chatty person on the airplane

On my flight from Chicago to Phoenix, I was as tired as hell. I’d been plane hopping for the last 24 hours and I was not in the mood or frame of mind to chat. Murphy’s law I end up sitting next to the chatty guy. It was fine for the first while, but then I realized that he really had a lot to say. We chatted about cars and work and America, but finally I was getting tired and …

What I’ve noticed so far in America

The client that I’m staying with in Arizona currently, mentioned whilst he was in SA, that he reckons SA isn’t that far off from being a 1st world country.

Hmm… Well I must be honest. I don’t think I agree. I’ve been here for less than a week now, and everyday I see indications of how far South Africa still has to go to be recognized as a 1st world country. Granted we have beauty that many other country’s don’t …

Jeep Waterfall

This is a pretty cool invention that combines the fleeting nature of falling water and inkjet type rendering technology.

This is a waterfall that was put together using a whole bunch of valves linked to an image rendering computer system. Basically, the image rendering system scans an image and then translates that in much the same way an inkjet printer would print out an image. Only difference is, is that the inkjet printer …

Holy Crap! I’m in America!

Yup, how about them apples… I’ve been in America for all of about 4 days now. I’m staying with a client in Arizona, Scottsdale to be exact. Its a beautiful area - loads of mountains and generally stunning scenery. There’s just so much to see here. I’m amazed more and more everyday how big this place is and how much there is to do.

I arrived on Saturday evening, after a gruelling, less than comfortable 25ish hour flight.
PE to Jozi - …

10 Points to Plantronics SA & Skypephones.co.za

In the quest for gadgets and all things geeky, I decided to splash out and get a bluetooth Skype headset. So I dropped by Skypephones.co.za and ordered a Plantronics headset. Once I’d received it, I promptly went out and bought a Gigabyte Bluetooth Dongle to pair with my funky new headset.

There began a frustrating few hours of trying to pair and maintain a connection between the dongle and the headset. Nothing seemed to work. I …

The value of experience

I’ve long been a believer that 1 years hands-on experience is worth 5 years studying & learning… give or take a month.

The knowledge and understanding of a subject that you acquire through hands-on experience is so much more valuable than in-theorum training. Reading about waves and currents and tides in a book doesn’t give you the same knowledge of a ship captain who’s actually been there, done that. When hiring someone, its always experience that seals the deal over someone …

My new cabbie

Ok, so this post is really quite unrelated to anything that this blog normally talks about, but I couldn’t help myself.. I had to share this..

I got my first car when I was 18. I worked as a waiter at St Elmo’s and my dad agreed to equal whatever I saved towards my first car. Eventually I had enough, and I got my first reddish/orange demon - a Datsun 140Y

Pretty much like that, except a miff orangy red …
