Leopard is better than Vista - Walt Mossberg

Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal has put together a nice review video of Apple’s new operating system, “Leopard”.

Now I don’t necessarily agree with his closing comments about Leopard being better than Vista, but I do agree that Leopard has definately proven themselves when it comes to that ‘Wow’ effect. Vista has that 3D window scrolling thingie, and the glossy corners etc, but Leopard has a huuuge array of features that all have that Wow effect. …

Why Computers Sometimes Crash

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket at a port,
And the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
And the access of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
Then the packet pocket socket has an error to report.

If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
And the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
And your data are corrupted ‘cos the index doesn’t hash,
Then your situation’s hopeless and your system’s gonna crash!

If the label on the …

Get a Mac - The TV Ads

I’m not sure if these ads are airing in South Africa - I dont watch much TV… But when I was in the states these ‘Hi, I’m a Mac… Hi, I’m a PC’ ads were all the rage. They’re really very clever and the advertising company that came up with the ideas for these definately needs a pat on the back for their creative work here. **sidenote - I wonder if they use Mac or PC?**…

Audi R8 - Hoh-lee-crap!!!

Never in my life have my eyes been so pleasured by a car. Sure, I’ve raced with it on Need for Speed, Carbon… but oh my… I’m borderline speechless at the almost sexual nature of this car. It’s honestly the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen on 4 wheels. Zero - 100km/h in 4.4 seconds is achieved by the 4.2L V8 FSI engine, and by the fact that its one of the few cars you’ll find nowadays with an Aluminium Frame. Whoa! All that power and half the weight.

Honestly… I really haven’t ever seen a car this sexy…

Check these features:

Awesome rolling bridge

How cool is this! I’ve seen some funky bridges in my time - including the swinging bridge at the Cape Town Waterfront that apparently won some design awards. But I think this one takes the cake, or swings the bridge…which ever you prefer.

This funky bridge rolls up like a shongololo in order to open the way for water traffic. Made of wood and steel it doesn’t look like anything special until it rolls itself up.
Rather than a conventional opening …

Would you walk on this?

The Glass Bridge Construction of the SkyWalk began March of 2004 and is estimated to be completed by 4th quarter of 2006.

Glass Bridge will be suspended 4,000 feet above the Colorado River on the very edge of the Grand Canyon. On May 2005, the final test was conducted and the structure passed engineering requirements by 400 percent, enabling it to withstand the weight of 71 fully loaded Boeing 747 airplanes (more than 71 million pounds).

The bridge will be able to …

February Gadgets

I wanna start two new regular features on The Yellow Llama. Firstly, I want to have a monthly post that showcase the best of the new gadgets I’ve seen that month. If you guys come across new funky stuff, feel free to email me during the month and submit your own favorites.

Secondly, I’ve seen a number of sites doing this (although I believe the original was Brainfuel) and I’ve decided to give it a go, now that …

Cell phones

We’ve come far in the world of Cell phones, consider the very sexy Motorola Pebble for example…

But we still have a ways to go and here’s two ideas that could make life even better…

1. (Courtesy of my very techno-backward mother) Meeting updates ::

We think that many cell phone users would be happy if, just like in MS outlook, you could SMS someone a meeting request, like a business card or normal SMS, which when accepted would update …
