Cell phones
We’ve come far in the world of Cell phones, consider the very sexy Motorola Pebble for example…

But we still have a ways to go and here’s two ideas that could make life even better…
1. (Courtesy of my very techno-backward mother) Meeting updates ::
We think that many cell phone users would be happy if, just like in MS outlook, you could SMS someone a meeting request, like a business card or normal SMS, which when accepted would update their Calendar and sound an alarm on the day of the meeting. Kewl huh?
2. Voice mail options ::
Why is there not a choice of voicemail messages to play to a caller. I want to be able to decide what message people hear when I am unable to pick up. Maybe by pushing a predefined number etc. I.E:: If you’re in a meeting and a client calls you want your voice mail to say “Hi, I’m not open for business right now but leave a message or call back after dark…”, of course, depending on what you do and depending on who’s calling. If your mama calls you might prefer something like “Hi, i’m just lending a hand at the soup kitchen right now, i’ll call back when all the hungry are fed…” I’ve often felt the need to play one message to a certain caller and a different message to another caller.
There is new development that a m8 of mine mentioned to me, a system developed in Durban (I speak under correction here)::
It’s a small device that undetectably attaches to your cell phone and if your phone is stolen you SMS your own phone from another phone and your stolen phone then shuts down completely so that the card is unusable. The gadet also starts an alarm alerting people to it’s location, so if the thief is still in the area — XOLO, TRONK TOE.
But as we all know from having our own phones stolen ( x 5 for me) thieves usually put the phone off straight away. When this happens the device lays in wait until the phone is purchased and loaded with a new card. On it’s startup it SMS’ a designated number and puts you in touch with the proud new owner. If there is still data on the phone it also instructs the phone to begin the “Vaccuum” process which send all your previously entered data to your new phone at the other guys cost. Booyakasha. But alas, the thieves still get their prize, because as we well know, crime does pay…
