Disaster strikes!!!
Have you ever noticed how much the American’s love bringing the worlds disaster to their own streets? No disasterous situation is left unturned. In the past we’ve seen unlikely Volcano’s, Meteor showers, Tsunami’s, Ice-bergs and yes, even the MOST UNAMERINCAN disaster ever - Godzilla - running rampage on the streets of L.A and New York. Such masachists indeed, or perhaps they just like painting themselves as the emerging heroes from the worlds worst situations. Well, because South Africa is cheap, they’re finally brining disaster to our own streets, and i’m not referring to Collin Moss in the movie “10″, we did that ourselves…

Right now in CT they are filming the movies - “The Flood” and “Katrina”. I’ll let you guess what those are about, but here’s a hint. (Deep movie preview voice please) “What happens when a classic natural disaster hits the streets of… L.A…. Tsunami!..”
That’s right folks, for the last few weeks now the “New Orleans” police have been cruising the streets of the fairest cape while the Voortrekker rd Sanlam centre plays the role of the Thames river bridge control centre perched and waiting for immenent flood destruction. Two quite similar movies you might think. Exactly. A shocking co-incendene? Uh uh, which brings us to our phrase for today kids, can you say “Corporate Espionage”?
Of all the businesses around the world that steal secrets from each other apparently it’s worst in movie making (An approx $25M loss per year to businesses). Think back, do you remember:
Armageddon released in 1998? How about deep impact, also released in 1998? Co-incendence or Corporate Espionage? I think the latter.
Volacano (1997) and Dante’s Peak(1997)
Antz (1998) and Bugz Life (1998)
George Bush’s Presidency acceptance speech (2001) and I am Sam (2001) also “The man who wasn’t there”, “American Outlaws”, “Bandits”, “What’s the worst that could happen” and “Artificial Intelligence” - all 2001
George Bush’s re-election speech (2004) and “Alexander” (2004) also “Alien Vs Predator”, “Bad Education”, “Breakin’ all the rules”, The Grudge”, “Anchor man”, “The Highwaymen”, “Napolean Dynamite”, “Resident evil”, “Taking lives” and “Twisted” - all 2004 and all undeniably similar.
Which brings me to my next point - How many movies has Jean Claude van Damme made where he plays 2 twin brothers???
Anyhoo, something you may not have known about Movie Espionage is that the first film to be shot is often the better, higher-budget film of the two and later released in cinemas. Once an idea has been stolen production companies rush to get the movie out first to get the full effect of the market buzz. So that explains it all. It may seem an unneccessary story, but you’ll thank me one day…
