Do you still watch the news?

I don’t watch a lot of TV. I don’t have the time. But I’ve been hanging around quite a bit with a new friend and their father watches the news a lot. They got DSTV (cable), and he loves SKY news, BBC news, CNN etc etc.. and I’m sorry, but I hate the news.

famine10 minutes and I’m depressed already. These guys are bombing those guys. 50 People dead or injured by those guys and these guys bombed them and now 20 children are mauled and maimed or shredded by shrapnel. Man, this world has gone to hell and its still digging deeper huh? I can’t take watching the news.

In cases like this, Ignorance is bliss. I mean I know that countries are fighting and there’s always a war going on somewhere at any given time. But I really don’t wanna know about it. I’d rather not feed my mind with images of dying children, crying and bleeding citizens and the like. I fear that this thing between Israel & Palestine is going to come to a head sooner or later and I worry about the outcome of that…

1,119 people have been killed by Palestinian violence and terrorism since September 2000.

Hezbollah leader apologizes for attack’s child victims

Total number of Palestinian deaths & injuries in West Bank & Gaza since Sept 29th, 2000 is 3,808 deaths, 29,456 injuries.

TV needs more shows that feature positive things. I’m not talking about laughing at sitcoms and stuff, but with all the crap that gets people down and depressed on the news, we need something really positive that gives people a teeny bit of hope of better things. Those little fluff pieces at the end of the news about the monkey playing the banjo are kind-of in the right direction, but we need to amplify that. We need to offset the depressing stuff with something good.

So yeah, I dont watch the news anymore. It’s too sucky. It’s channel 81 for me all the way…
