No jokes.. Some guy had the money, time and the know-how to mount 2 General Electric T-58-3 Turbines into his MR2. This monster has 4 fuel tanks that run on Jet A Fuel. Its equipped with many safety features that most standard turbine powered cars come with… fire detection, fire surpression, roll cage and power steering for those hair-pin corners at 200km/hr.
I think its street legal, except for the excessive noise issue. The car is trust only, it has no reverse. For salt-flat running, a modified engine cover is put on to take the air off the top of the roof to supply more air and keep salt out of the turbines.
The car has run twice on the salt flats. The first time it wanted to fly at 140mph. The second time, after adding the spoilers and air dam, it stayed solid though 187mph with a lot more room to go.
