GLA, Gay’s donating blood -
I’ve tried to find articles to present the facts on this but unfortunately the news is a few steps behind the Yellow Llama, so i’m gonna go with ballpark figures etc…
As Gay people partake in high risk behaviour local blood donation associations in South Africa have a policy to not accept any blood from them. Before donating blood candidates must fill out a form detailing sexual orientation and sexual behaviour in order to qualify. Gay’s, are automatically turned down along with other high-risk candidates. As a result members of the Gay and Lesbian Association (GLA) have been fighting for their right to donate blood for some time.
This morning one blood bank got a call from someone claiming that aprox 150 members of the GLA had recently donated blood after having lied on their application forms. 60% of which engaged in high-risk behaviour and one confirmed HIV+. This is reported to be an on-going effort until the blood association/s change their policy on Gay and Lesbian blood donation. While in a radio interview a GLA member reported to the interviewer that another +- 300 GLA members were falsely donating blood as they spoke.
Wow, a form. That’s bullet proof. However, in SA if you lie on a form you can be had up for fraud and in the case of donating HIV+ blood you can be tried for much more than that. But still, a form isn’t really that bullet proof isn’t it. There must be a better way of qualifying individuals as donating blood is a “privelege” and not a “right” they say.
Anyhoo, point is…
Whoever has done this is playing with peoples lives. If it is a GLA effort it’s much more shocking and they would have lost many of their “Hetro Friends/supporters” that they have been building since their inception. Indeed, if it is a GLA effort it’s really more like terrorism than a political statement and they should change their accronym to read in full “Gay Liberation Army”.
If of course this is just a biiiig group of pissed off homo’s then they should be tried and dealt with as severly as possible.
In the end, it’s best to stay away from blood…
