Happiness = Elusive

Its the white rabbit of the current population. In some form or another, everyone on this planet is doing his or her thing to try and get happiness. Joe Soap slaves away everyday in a job that he perhaps doesn’t like that much because he wants to earn enough to have a retirement that he hopes will eventually bring him happiness - although by that time, he’s too old to enjoy it. Sophie Smith spends hours on her looks and figure to find herself that perfect man that will be everything she’s always wanted in the hopes of living a happy life.
Granted these are generalizations and its not my intention to have everyone commenting on how they dont fit into the above categories. What I’m getting at is the fact that as much as everyone tries, how many people actually find that happiness that they crave?
A recent survey showed that a huge chunk of the American population believed that financial stability or great wealth would give them the happiness that they sought. Fat chance. In general, Americans are richer than they’ve ever been and they’re no happier for it.
So basically then, all these rich guys we’re seeing on TV with their bling cars, phat houses and hot wives aren’t really all that happy. All those hot celebs that people ogle over all day long, are more than likely just hiding behind their riches to cloak their unhappiness to the world, and quite likely themselves too.
So where do we get happiness from then? How do we be truly happy? I’m not talking about smiling around friends. I’m not talking about feeling happy cos you’re getting a raise. I mean truly happy….deep inside you, that feeling of semi-euphoria that results from true, sincere inner peace & happiness. How do you get THAT kinda happiness?
I’m open to your suggestions.
