Holy Crap! I’m in America!
Yup, how about them apples… I’ve been in America for all of about 4 days now. I’m staying with a client in Arizona, Scottsdale to be exact. Its a beautiful area - loads of mountains and generally stunning scenery. There’s just so much to see here. I’m amazed more and more everyday how big this place is and how much there is to do.
I arrived on Saturday evening, after a gruelling, less than comfortable 25ish hour flight.
PE to Jozi - 2 hours
4 hour layover
Jozi to Dakar - 8 hours
1 hour refuel & security check
Dakar to DC - 9 hours
3 hour layover
DC to Chicago - 1.5 hours
2 hour layover
Chicago to Phoenix - 4 hours
Painfull doesn’t cut it.
By the time I got to Chicago, I just wanted to be home. I never thought I’d be sick of flying, but dang, that trip was enough to make anyone hate the site of an airplane. Plus, to make matters worse, I arrived in Chicago still wearing my shorts & t-shirt and it was freggan -3′C. I stood out like a sore thumb… Everyones wearing their woolies and beanies, and here’s Koos with his shorts & T. Nice. Spot the tourist.
America is huge, to say the least. Its a monstrous city that you can lose yourself in, in any place, at any time. Its amazing.
My biggest amazement thusfar has been in the cars here. Damn. I have a friend in Oregon and I was shocked to hear that she drove a Ford F-150 Truck. But now that I’m here, I’ve seen grannies driving Escalades, soccer mom’s driving Lamborghini’s and oupa’s driving Ford Lincolns. I’m glad to say that there’s hardly any BMW’s or Mercedes on the roads - well not as many as you see in SA anyways. There’s clearly an incredible choice in vehicles here in the states. So if you got money, your choice for a luxury car extends beyond a BMW or Merc.
I haven’t done much sight seeing as yet. Been pretty much work, work, work. Me and the client I’m staying with were given tickets to America’s largest car show, the SEMA Car Show which I’m very stoked for. Plus, as I’ve never seen snow (well never played in it), we’re gonna go check out the snow sometime soon too.
Flying to Texas on Friday for a business meeting. Maybe check out a rodeo :P
Anyways, I’m gonna be upgrading my Flickr account in the next few days so that I can start uploading all the pictures I’m taking. I’ll keep you posted.
Chat again soon in part 2 of Marks US adventure :)
