“I find it hard to breathe”
Irish gent Damien Rice is a talented individual. Due to artistic differences with their record label, Damien left his “next-big-thing” band, Juniper, in the late nineties. He fled to Tuscanny and busked the streets of Europe for a year. Finally – with his mind settled once more – it was back to Dublin where he began penning the songs that would become “O”. I fell in love with “O” almost two years ago. Rice’s intensely personal record has been lauded as mesmerising, absorbing, adventurous and emotional.
Well “B-sides” – his latest offering – is all that, and more.
Even more personal this time round, Rice lets us deeper still into his soul. This journey is sordid and beautiful at the same time – but always breath-taking. The incredibly complementary vocal and chello talents of Lisa Hannigan are featured on this disc too. “Moody Mooday” and “Woman Like a Man” stand out as brilliant, on an album that is just exceptional.
Get hold of this.
I believe I have just acquired the full album of this fellow, Damien Rice! :-)
