iPod Nano review - the black one

Holy Guacamole. I recently acquired an Apple iPod Nano and there are a few things i’d like to say…

Firstly i’d like to thank my little friend Andi Rolfe for donating the ingenious little gadget. It’s perfect for music lovers like me, nice one Andi.

When I first received my little black package, no not the one I got at birth, this is waaaaay littler, my first impression was “Nice box”. Coz it’s very nicely packaged. Now having had other MP3 players, and having seeing gym bunnies running around during their workouts with the little pink and blue iPod shuffles strapped to their bulging muscles while their tongues flap around on the hamster wheels, I sort of knew what to expect, sort of. BUT ALAS, NOTHING COULD HAVE PREPARED ME!!! This little bugger is smaller than and as light as the Jumbo Lion matchbox! Holy Cow! In fact you could shove 2 or 3 of these puppies in a double Lion match box. “Wow” I thought, “now I can cram 2GB of data onto this little toy?” I couldn’t believe it.

Nano - RespektYou must be lyin

So there I was all amped up, I got all my cables together, had my 20GB mobile drive ready with all my traxx ready to go. I was all set… AND THEN, my first snag… :: PAUSE ::

I would just like to add that I have no criticism about the perfect little iPod, I know that peeps have beutched and forced a re-call due to scratchy screens but a true music lover wouldn’t let that slow him/her down. I don’t care if the screen gets scratched, hey it’s gonna happen, as long as the music stays as sweet. No my criticism has all to do with… :: PLAY ::

iTunes! What a pain. Now I don’t claim to be a real smarty, I leave that to my “invited to MENSA when I was 12″ (www.mensa.org and NOT www.mensa.co.za) friends, you know who you are, but having worked on Mac and MS in the past the pennies were dropping like turkey’s at thanksgiving. Not that it’s the interest of the boys over at Microsoft to design hardware like the awesome little Nano, but even if it was :: they couldn’t! At the same time iTunes has a loooong way to go before it’s as logical as MS applications that do the same job.

I’m not saying that iTunes is terrible and i’m not saying that it isn’t, but it is! It just doesn’t let you do what you wanna do in the way that you wanna do it. Like windows 3.2, you have to do it it’s way. Something that XP and 2000 have largely made disappear for the end user, unfortunately not the techies. But who cares about techies, they’re always gonna use the back door anyway. *No offence meant*. Now now, I’m just waiting for the defence to come for iTunes, with lame reasoning around legalities and structure, blah blah bbbbbllllaaaaahhhh. Just shutup rather, coz we’re not living in a world like that. You’ll never make it unless you GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT! And the people want ease of tunage! Among other things…

So my final verdict::
Apple’s iPod Nano 9/10
iTunes 6/10
Music 100/10

You’d have more joy using a MS prog to move your data around but iTunes still does the job, so :: Get the Nano NOW!
