My new cabbie
Ok, so this post is really quite unrelated to anything that this blog normally talks about, but I couldn’t help myself.. I had to share this..
I got my first car when I was 18. I worked as a waiter at St Elmo’s and my dad agreed to equal whatever I saved towards my first car. Eventually I had enough, and I got my first reddish/orange demon – a Datsun 140Y

Pretty much like that, except a miff orangy red color and a 4 door version and definately no bling mags.
But then, the law of entropy and the expected rough driving of an 18 year old led to the cars downfall and I was forced to sell it whilst I had something to sell.
Then I saved up again and I got another cool cabbie, a 2-door 1981 Golf 1100… Once again not as pimped up as the blue one below, but a fun car. I did gymkhana racing against 1.4L city golfs and won! It had a good life until I sold it for R5k…

… and got my next car, a 1989 Golf 1 4 door 1.3L. Nothing fancy, but like all other golfs, a good runner and a pretty reliable car.

I clearly have a soft spot for VW Golfs… Maybe its their clean cut lines, attractive spare part pricing and ease of ‘upgrading’… Whatever it is, I love them.
I recently decided that it was time for an upgrade and a friend of mine made me an offer on a car of his which I jumped at and today, I’m proud to say that I’m the proud new owner of a Golf 4 GTI

YAY!
She’s a 1.8L 20v Turbo monster with around 110kw of oomph!
Here’s to finally having a car that has electric windows, airbags, powersteering and a quiet engine that doesn’t force you to shout at the person sitting next to you.
Here’s to my new cabbie :)
