Pictures from the Billabong Pro 2006, Jeffreys Bay
Yup, its that time again, the Jeffreys Bay Billabong Pro has been happening for the last couple of weeks and the surf has been rocking so far. All the big names on the World Tour have been ripping it up and as usually, Jeffrey’s bay has been inundated with surfers, surflovers, groupies, and drunk teenagers.

Thanks to MaxH, we have some Billabong Pro 2006 photos from last Friday’s action. If you’re terribly bored and you want to keep in touch with the action minute by minute, you can check out the official Billabong Pro website. There’s a nifty live video feed and a few photos too.
Side Thoughts
I gotta wonder how the residents of Jeffrey’s Bay feel about this annual invasion. Granted, I’m sure it brings in a whack of cash into the town and from a commercial point of view I’m sure its great. But lets be honest, the main fan group of this kind of event, are teenagers to 30-ish year olds. A friend of mine’s parents went to Jeffrey’s Bay this past weekend and were plagued by drunk teenagers next door to them who were rowdy and raucous until the early morning hours.
Now, a few beers too many and lots of shouting can kind of be expected during this time of year. But that wasn’t the case… the owner of the establishment reported the next morning that doors had been bashed down, her cats had been vomited on and thrown off the balcony, glass bottles were thrown through the windows of guest houses and homes next door… shocking stuff. Usually, this establishment doesn’t allow younger kids to stay here, but she was phoned by the parents of these kids and was begged to make an exception for their children who were all respectable children, members of Collegiate and Grey High School in Port Elizabeth and some of them, prefects.
Thats a great witness for those schools huh?
Anyways, I’m sure this kind of thing, for the most part, is not the standard thing, but I’m sure it’s another point in the argument of Jeffreys Bay residents who might not be so happy with this event.
Well, enjoy the pictures and good luck to all participants in this years Jeffrey’s Bay Billabong Pro.
