The Gospel of Judas
Both Christian Zealots and Dan Brown anoraks are currently frothing at the mouth, (which gives the Muslims a day off for good behaviour) over, firstly the book The Da Vinci Code and secondly the ensuing legal action taken against Dan Brown in light of alleged plagiarism from subtexts and plot thickeners nicked from the authors of Holy Blood, Holy Grail.
With killer timing, in a seemingly ironic publicity coup de tat, the National Geographic Society announces the discovery and restoration of an apocryphal gospel, that of Judas, who according to Christian tradition, is synonymous with betrayal because of his betrayal of Jesus Christ.
The proverbial can of worms is more like a 20 Gallon drum of electric eels that has been dropped into the sensible woven trousers of collective, politcally correct and religiously tolerant society, that has been waiting like blood-thirsty Moabites at a stoning, watching with interest and piety, but waiting to the flag to drop so that can lob stones, and bags of gravel at the first sign of impropriety.
We are so confined in our prisons of cultural tolerance and modern acceptable behaviour, 21st Century media has exposed every dark corner of our psyches and people are itching to revolt or condemn. Where the text books and internet have been awash with inconsistencies with respect to all three Abrahamic Religions for many years, now that it centers around a pending Tom Hanks Movie based on a Best Selling fiction Novel, or a Carte Blanche article on an inconclusive National Geographic finding, everyone is on the edge of their seat?
Ironically all the messages in the canons of scripture of all three religions, which are startlingly similar, is completely overlooked. (Until maybe National Geographic expose that too…)
