Whats worse than crime?

I must be honest, when I first moved into my flat, I was pretty happy about the security there. Its a huge and somewhat intimidating block with high-rise, electrified fencing, the whole shebang. Every door leading in and out of the place is automatic, ie controlled by a boom so that you can’t force the door open. Residents have a key-card type thingie that allows access to these doors.

Pretty safe huh?

Bzzzzt…

My car has been broken into twice, in the 5 months that I’ve been here. Thats just my car…there have been other cars broken into as well. I found out this morning, that a car was stolen right out of the security parking area! Apparently ‘they’ lifted the main sliding gate right off the rails and drove a VW Jetta out of the lot.

But nonetheless, you know whats worse than all this? Its the apathy of the body corporate of these flats. They couldn’t give a left nut whats happening here. You see they all have garages (the parking area has undercover bays, open bays and garages) so they aren’t worried.

I threw my toys out of the cot last week because of their lack of desire to do anything. I said they must get guards, which they refused to do because they claim that having guards won’t work. Uh….it can’t get much worse than this guys. Having a guard would have definately deterred the thiefs from taking a freggan car!!

Muppets.

Apparently now they are going to get security cameras… We’ll see.

Its this apathetic spirit though that really hacks me off. When I first spoke to the big chief of the flats and I complained about the fact that my car had been broken into, she said “Well its happening everywhere, not just here..”

Excuse me? Oh well, in that case, let me go and kill someone and when the police come, I’ll just say, “but people in Bosnia and Iraq are doing it all the time, its happening everywhere…”

Yeah, thats a good excuse.

Make a plan people, don’t let those lazy ass thiefs win because of your apathy. Don’t roll over and take it up the exit.

Ok I’m done.

I am not advocating crime in ANYWAY. but I think that to solve the problem of crime, is going to take more than security cameras and gated communities.

Perhaps when we sovle the inequities of the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots’ peoples property won’t come up missing. but then there will always be a**holes who have nothing better to do than terrorize peoples neighborhoods.

I only make this statement because it sound like you are living in somewhat of a fortress albeit a not very well protect one.

remember doors only have locks to keep us in not to keep robbers out. ever try to kick a door in fron the outside? go look at how your door is made… its made so that it is easier to be kicked in than kicked out.

I just hope this experience hasn’t jaded you to some notion of who ‘they’ are across class and or race. that would truely be the saddest occurence here.

MarkB

No truly not David… I have no idea who ‘they’ are. Nowadays people from all races, languages, tribes & nations are being put in a position where they feel they have to turn to crime to stay alive…

Fair enough…

My gripes in the above article had more to do with the fact that when put in a position where a whole block of flats is being victimized by crime, they display such a terrible apathetic attitude. “So your cars been broken into, whats that gotta do with me?”, kinda attitude….

THATS what gets under my skin.

David

Glad to hear that… Man sorry for the mispellings, was 2 in the morning when I wrote that;)

“So your cars been broken into, whats that gotta do with me?”

Yeah seems like you may need to find a new neighborhood, sadly.

I go back to the ‘haves and have nots’. They ‘have’ your rent/mortgage, so they could care less if you ‘have not’ your car/property. Sad state of affairs that is, is there a ‘real’ police unit that can be comissioned to patrol the area or would that still be considered a ‘security guard’?

You may be able to call the police and get them to put a car in the area. Not sure how the system works there in SA. Good luck and stay safe

Gary

So will these Camera’s jump off the wall and catch the already disguised criminal? stands to reason…

MarkB

No Gary you egit :)

The cameras have an offsite monitoring system with motion sensors. So they pick motion, guys check the camera and if it shows dodgy activity then they send security guys out..

sorted :)
